Our Vision

Visible Body makes learning and teaching anatomy and physiology visual and engaging. We invent apps that advance the way students learn and healthcare professionals practice.

Our inspiration comes from the dynamic world of 3D games and mobile devices. Our compelling, interactive, and highly accurate visualizations launch anatomy education far beyond written text, flat images and plastic models.

Our mission is to allow anybody anywhere to easily engage with our world-class visual human biology content. That's why we offer apps and other learning tools on multiple platforms, in many languages, and at a reasonable cost.

To date, millions of people in over 200 countries have used our products over the web, on iPads, iPhones, Android devices, PCs and Macs, and lately on emergent platforms like Sectra and zSpace tables. To learn more about our community of users visit us on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

Our Content

All of our 3D models, illustrations, and animations are created by our in-house team of biomedical visualization experts. This makes us unique in the 3D medical visualization business! Models are based on the experience our experts have dissecting cadavers, their extensive primary visual notes, and their trusted secondary sources.

After models are created or refined they are reviewed by an outside team. That team is a group of professors and medical professionals and is different for each model set (we select outside reviewers who have particular expertise that matches the content to be reviewed). Our biomedical visualization team discusses critiques and recommendations with the outside team and the models are refined as needed.   Final models are further reviewed by a test group of expert users.

Medical accuracy is critical in creating, reviewing, and displaying our content. For more information on how we develop models watch this short video that highlights our commitment to accuracy.

We began creating our proprietary models and animations of the human body over 15 years ago. Today that visual medical library includes over ten thousand assets. We are continuously adding to and improving our content as we develop new products and build on recent medical research.  The content in our library is made available through our products and through the free learning content on our popular Visible Body Blog, Learn Anatomy website, YouTube videos, and eBooks.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Our products display content from our vast library of 3D models, animations and text. This content is created by experts and reviewed by professionals. We are also in constant conversation with our customer base; many of these professors and healthcare practitioners send us suggestions for improvements, corrections, or new content ideas. We greatly appreciate all those who contribute their time and expertise. This list includes a snapshot of recent reviewers.

Our Customers

Millions of people interested in human biology education have used Visible Body apps, including students, teachers, medical professionals, and patients. Our customers also include institutions such as universities, hospitals, libraries, and businesses.

Customers use Visible Body apps for studying and teaching anatomy and physiology, as reference tools, and as patient education materials.

We have created custom apps for the world's largest medical device companies, including Johnson & Johnson, Stryker, and Medtronic. These apps help train sales reps and provide surgeons a 3D environment in which to preview new procedures.

We launched our first product just a few years ago. But prior to that we spent over a decade as an established educational publishing company; we created content for many of the world's most prominent educational publishers, including Pearson, McGraw Hill, and Cengage Learning.

We've been in the business of visually teaching with technology for twenty years.

Our Team

Visible Body is a U.S.-based company located in greater Boston, a recognized center of medical innovation. Boston's world-renowned universities, hospitals, and technology firms provide a fertile ground for ideas, talent, and collaboration.

Our in-house team is made up of:

  • Biomedical visualization experts who hold advanced degrees in the art and science of communicating complex human biology. They have studied alongside medical students, have observed surgeries, and have extensive hands-on experience with cadaver dissection.
  • Educational publishing executives and teachers with decades of experience in instructional design.
  • Programmers and software architecture gurus who have written over a million lines of code to efficiently and seamlessly deliver our content across multiple platforms.
  • Customer service and sales professionals who reach across the globe and listen to what the healthcare community needs.

Visible Body is headed by brothers CEO Andrew Bowditch and CFO Matthew Bowditch. Building upon the success of the educational publishing business they founded 20 years ago, Visible Body was launched in 2007 and remains a privately held, independent venture.

Careers

The VB team is small, innovative, and dedicated.

Here at Visible Body, virtual anatomy and phsyiology is created by real human beings. We do not outsource our core work. Instead, you'll find us all working, creating, and exchanging ideas side by side in a creative, dynamic environment. Our employee base is made up of specialists in:

  • Medical visualization
  • Software development
  • Design and user experience
  • Content development
  • Project management
  • Marketing and business development
  • Customer service
  • Quality assurance

We have assembled an extraordinary collection of professionals working together to transform how the world sees, learns, and teaches anatomy and physiology. We were the first company to allow users to interact online with a detailed 3D human body model, and we were the first to offer true 3D anatomy apps on mobile devices. With 20 years in the rearview mirror and many other firsts to come, we are looking for additional smart, skilled and passionate people to join us on our journey along the cutting edge.

Where education, medicine, and technology intersect

We are located just outside of Boston on the Route 128 tech beltway.

While our apps and software are used across the globe, our team is situated just outside of Boston, a city known for its world-class universities, hospitals, and technology companies. We draw on the energy and expertise of our environment to do what we do at the highest level possible. Our offices in Newton, Massachusetts, are easy to get to for city-dwelling employees who use public transportation, as well as for those driving in from other locales.
